WHY WE ARE
Nearly 1 in 6 children* in our community are on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). These children face food insecurity, especially during non-school periods. When children are provided the proper nutrition, it positively impacts their physical development, mental health, and academic levels – setting a course for greater achievements in their future endeavors.

WHAT WE DO
What began as an effort to provide summer lunches to children eligible for the National School Lunch & School Breakfast Programs has evolved into a variety of programs that provide year-long support to these children and their families, with a focus on meals, access to enrichment, and help with making homes safer and more livable.
OUR STORY
In March 2015, members of the Kendall County Food Council decided to launch a program to provided food during the summer months for children eligible for the Federal Meal Program during the school year. The Boerne Community Coalition (BCC) was created to fill this gap.
In the summer of 2015, with the Mayor's support and, in partnership with Taking It To The Streets, the BCC began to provide meals to children by taking a mobile food truck into their neighborhoods. The summer ended with the first Community Workday, in which the BCC helped to repair homes in need and held a cookout with the children and their families.
Since then, the BCC has evolved into LOVE Kendall County Kids (LKCK) which better reflects our span of reach throughout Kendall County with programs focusing on food, enrichment, and critical home repairs for those in need. Over the summer months and school breaks, lunches are delivered each weekday to children participating in local camps and enrichment programs. Eligible children can receive scholarships to these camps and programs through LOVE Kendall County Kids partnerships with organizations.
